One of my friends from HQ won a 6x8 Wacom Graphire3 tablet at a graphic arts expo...

and he decided to give it to MEEE!!!   :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD~

I still can't believe it... T__T... thank you, Daniel Beach... you have no idea how much this means to me.

I've been having lots of fun getting used to drawing with this thing ^^ here are a few practice pics: photoshop painter

Also—I've decided to get started on this one manga idea that's been spinning in my head in the past few months. I'll be housing it in a MovableType blog at my buddy Steve's online HQ community. Here's the site: manga.candidhq.com. Not sure if I'll be able to really keep it up this semester, but I will definitely start it ^_^.

Not many other things to note, except that I've really been getting into this artistic groove lately (goes well with the tablet ^^). I've been drawing in my sketchbook more than ever and getting inspired left and right. CGTalk of course, but also my supervisor's introducing me to the Hudson River School artists (the paintings of which I got to see in person at the National Gallery of Art last month) and this Marines artist I met (friend of my grandpa's), who gave me all these random art tips and advice he had learned throughout his art life. Really made me want to go to art school like he did, and get formal training!

Brought my sketchbook to Michigan (for the HQ Northwoods retreat), here are a few of the pics:
The Council - MOOGLE MAN!! Hehe
Northwoods Lodge - Pic I show the kind of people who would probably be freaked out by the moogle man
Windy - Generic girls, bleh
Good times - Not so generic

Oh, COD has started; I'm taking Political Science and Film as Lit, both pretty good courses. My only complaint is having to watch old freaky films like Psycho in Film as Lit. I can take any amount of gore and violence, but I'm a total wimp when it comes to horror movies. Even a few non-horror ones have managed to freak me out, like Eternal Sunshine and Minority Report (both awesome movies btw, I just wouldn't want to watch them again ^^;;... ok?). Speaking of good movies... I loved Star Wars III! Pretty bad scriptwriter, and lame sequence of events around *spoiler*Mace Windu's death -- just seemed awkward that Anakin converted so quick o_O*end spoiler*, but other than that I think it was great. Or maybe this is just the SW fangirl within speaking, who knows :).

Tony, thanks for the offer of your php script =). I sure wish I had the skills to code my own blog software, but at this point I am still struggling with the basics of ruby (my first/only programming language :P). Actually... starting next week I'll be taking a ruby class at HQ; it may help ^^.

Weien, I'm lovin' your, um, observation regarding the Achievements XD. I really do hope that one of these days we all create amazing costumes and roam the streets of Naperville -- animanga freak show! Thanks for your suggestions for channeling my renewed obsession. And I would LOVE to master qing gong with you!

Tara, yeah I will have to keep up with karate. Some aspects, especially those one steps are so easy to forget -__-;;. I miss you! I was just thinking the other day, it would be really great to just go chill with Tara right now...

Cynthia, miss you too; hope you're doing well. I love your new layout!! So different from the usual xD.

Topher, nice to meet you ^^! About writing, I'll have to quote Pascal: "When we see a natural style, we are astonished and charmed; for we expected to see an author, and we find a person." I LOVE blog-surfing, because that is often where I see it :).

It's that time of year again, where I start dreading a certain event... will all my bdays be like this from now on? UGH.

Wait....you dread your birthdays? Hmm. Then again, I know people who think they're going to die on their birthday.
Hmm. Creepy.
ANYWAYS, thanks for the compliment ^____^....let's all write poems about Cynthia!!

You lucky, lucky girl. Wacom tablets rock. You will have to expand your pic gallery now. I'm really liking the manga pic. The little dudes have such expressive behaviors. The wanted poster is a nice touch. So you're getting too old for your birthday now?
The temperature here is supposed to drop in Oct. . . *hint, hint*

YOU UPDATED. XD And with another one of your long, but content-worthy posts. ::hugs you::
OMG, congrats!!! And envy, DUUUUDE, and all that other good shinazz. ;D You got a TABLET! DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?? IT MEANS YOUR ART WILL BE EVEN MORE GORGEOUS THAN USUAL AND THE SPEED OF YOUR OUTPUT SHALL INCREASE LIKE OMGWOAH SPEEDS. XDDD
But seriously, this is awesome. You must thank your friend by putting it to good use. ::decisive nod:: So, start drawing!
... Actually, I just went and saw your socalled shoddy character designs. WTF. XDDD YOU'RE SELF DEPICTION IS SOOO CUTE!!! Loving the glasses and the grin.
And I see you've met Christopher Chang... ;; I'm SO sorry. (XD Just kidding!.... kinda :P)

Guess what. I found my own name in the Bible. Well, fine. I found a permutation of my name in the Bible. Well, fine, I found a permutation of a butcheration of my name on Google, close enough. Actually, no, I'm serious: *Here.
Proverbs 8. And right there, right on the very last verse of the chapter, we see the following words:
"But he that sinneth against me WONGETH his own soul: all they that hate me love death."
Pretty amazing, huh? Wisdom and I are buds, practically next to each other dictionary-wise.
-----
Translation of the above: "Hi Vic." Mm, finesse! Anyway, time to start not making sense.
For starters, the latest in Hilarious Chinese Class Humers (like the bones):*Wu Laoshi: (In the middle of teaching) GAVIN! You're spacing!*Gavin: Sorry.
Anyway. I hear Ian likes playing with your 6x8. So you have that in common, at least. One thing I must mention is that I love the way you name your files. "P-yellowcoat.jpg" *dies laughing* And Eaglesong (your HQ manga) will definitely be kept up with, especially with a great name like that that your bro just made up two seconds ago without telling you that he's decided.
*squashes a bug that's been crawling around on his monitor* (translation: changing the subject).
Moogle man: That's the LAST TIME I do modeling for you; I shoulda known something was going wrong when you put the wings on my back and told me to look creepy! (^^) But I guess the moogle man is what you show people who would be bored by sk-nwlodge.jpg, right?
Anyway, cheers to everyone who thinks that even the best Jedi are weak and lame and above all, fake when compared to a good old-fashioned wushu master. And... that about sums it up. Funny how your blog posts don't seem all that long after I comment on them. Bugrit.
Ai, Oi, Love (Was going to list that word in twenty different languages right here but realized that I didn't want to get anything wrong),*Weien

That's a long post to comment on... Thankfully, it's split into just a few sections ;-)
I like the pictures. All of them. And the ones on your HQ blog, those drawings are very... completeish. Not sketchy like your generic girls. The HQ people look like good friendly types. I'd like to meet them.
I suppose that's all for now. Nag Weien to update the Song! (You can nag him because you're a girl.)

Hey Vic--I just dreamed, sleeping here at COD, that you blogged. It was kind of long, had lots of BR's, and in general had some of the elements that you mentioned earlier today in the car, but I wasn't able to read any of the details--my monitor probably melted thereafter, while I simultaneously realized that I was unclothed in the middle of the library, or something dreamy like that.
Ohwell.
